Jamaican Hugs

Free Hugs Jamaica Team Many have cast the nation of Jamaica as a dark and crude place to be, with violence and hardship and the lack of compassion for a fellow brother and sister living right next door. However this notion can be shattered as the celebration of International Free Hugs day was conducted with just a small amount of nation builders and changers, in one of the nations most busiest areas, Half Way Tree.

The Free Hugs Campaign is a social movement involving individuals who offer hugs to strangers in public places. The campaign in its present form was started in 2004 by an Australian man known only by the pseudonym "Juan Mann". Free Hugs CampaignThe campaign became famous internationally in 2006 as the result of a music video on YouTube by the Australian band Sick Puppies, which is one of the most popular on the site, having been viewed over 69,000,000 times. The hugs are meant to be random acts of kindness - selfless acts performed just to make others feel better.

Henry RobinsonJamaican Henry Robinson took the project on in London and with a huge success he had decided to take it to his home country Jamaica, with the help of his family and friends he got the Free Hugs movements going in Jamaica by the social media Facebook where they posted a video as well as created a Facebook group FREE HUGS – Jamaica Leg. The group has gotten a good amount of traffic since its inception. The attention the campaign got locally was a success for the little media hype the group created in making the project as simple as it could have been so persons would see them and you guessed it randomly given them a hug without prior knowledge of what was going on.

"Inclusive Saturdays" strong at Quad

Written by Kemar Daswell 'The New Guru'

By now you should all have heard that (the recently upgraded) Quad Night Club is the new home to Jamaica’s only "surevibes" event, Inclusive Saturdays.

Celebrities, fashionistas, promoters and dancers alike, turned out to support the event's new location. On Saturday night, long lines and a packed club indicated just how much support the event actually sustains. Quad welcomed an overwhelming 1500 party goers who enjoyed themselves till the wee hours of the morning, coming out just in time for sunlight.

The “Appreciation Party” as it was aptly dubbed saw patrons getting more value for their money. With now two choices of rum, drinkers enjoyed inclusive rum mixes which, in addition to the DJs, kept the vibes and energy up all night.

Patrons could be seen with their gun fingers in the air as sound systems Kingston Allstars and Code Red kept the vibe going strong with a slew of R & B selections and gangster tunes. But it was Kartel’s ‘Summertime’ and Mavado’s ‘Delilah’, that got an explosive response of ‘forwards’ from the crowd.

Next up for Inclusive Saturdays is their Summer Series, slated for kick off this weekend. For the weeks to come, patrons can expect summer-related themes and specials as the promoters at CDC Events, promise to pull out all the stops. They hinted at the possibility of patrons being able to enjoy a more “Inclusive” option, for those interested in a step up from the regular offerings. The series will climax at their highly anticipated ‘Inclusive Anniversary Weekend’ set over two days, the 27th and 28th of August.

Lastly, look out for the first, Inclusive ‘Flip’ Magazine reflecting (with “surepics”) on the year that has elapsed and what to expect this summer.
