DREAD & ALIVE – THE LOST TAPESNICHOLAS DA SILVA’S DREAD & ALIVE The Lost Tapes

WORLDWIDE RELEASE DATE: TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 14, 2010

From roots and culture to dub, this is just the beginning of a musical voyage to accompany the adventures of Dread and Alive.

After combing the hills of Jamaica, the ocean lapped shores of the Pacific, the wide open spaces of North America and the icy reaches of Scandinavia, Soul of the Lion and Zoolook Records have unearthed a treasure trove of tunes.

Zoolook, in cooperation with Soul of the Lion, is pleased to present Nicholas Da Silva’s Dread & Alive: The Lost Tapes. The debut audio counterpart to the highly anticipated Issue #3 of the Dread & Alive comic book series, The Lost Tapes features top current international roots reggae artists Anthony B, Lutan Fyah, SOJA, Jah Mason, I-Octane and Niyorah as well as respected veterans Bob Andy, Annette Brissett and the Grammy-nominated harmony trio, The Itals. Uniting artists from the Caribbean, Europe, the Pacific Rim and North America, including contributions from award-winning Itation Records, renowned Jamaican guitarist/ producer Earl ‘Chinna’ Smith and critically acclaimed I Grade Records, The Lost Tapes is a clearly comprehensive and unique find for music as well roots and culture fans everywhere.

DREAD & ALIVE – THE LOST TAPES TracklistScheduled for digital release September 14, The Lost Tapes captures the universal social, political and artistic themes with which roots reggae music, and Da Silva’s fascinating storyline, have spread worldwide. Baijie and Mackie Conscious embody these enduring messages in the music while the magnetic mysticism of Sahra Indio, the soul roots of Toussaint (former lead singer of Stax Records / Blue Note recording group Soulive), Jamaican bass virtuoso Taddy P and European jazz/Hip Hop/reggae artist Hanouneh reflect the breadth and depth of the album. Including previously unreleased tracks from Anthony B, The Itals and Monsoon, each of the new and hit songs spanning reggae, dub and soulful roots are designed to be heard either alongside Da Silva’s comic book, or, as a special, standalone musical event.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

ANTHONY B: Anthony B (born Keith Blair) grew up in Clark’s Town in the parish of Trelawny, a parish noted for the Maroons, heroic Afrikan freedom fighters who defeated the English military. Both Anthony’s Revivalist grandmother and Seventh Day Adventist mother immersed him in the musical traditions of rural Jamaica, an environment that informs Anthony’s modern roots reggae anthems like “Raid The Barn” and “Zinc Fence Jungle”. A believer in the pan-Afrikan philosophy of Marcus Mosiah Garvey, Anthony B is also one of the world’s most visible devotees of Rastafari.

NICHOLAS DA SILVA’S DREAD & ALIVE (Issue #3)LUTAN FYAH: When conscious reggae music needed a spark, Jamaican sing-jay Lutan Fyah (born Anthony Martin) re-energized the genre with hard hitting messages softened by catchy hooks and a magnetic lyrical flow. His constant touring schedule abroad and relentless studio work ethic has placed Lutan Fyah among the elite of Jamaica’s cultural ambassadors.

ABOUT NICHOLAS DA SILVA’S DREAD & ALIVE

Dread & Alive is the first superhero comic book with a Jamaican as the protagonist. Created and written by Nicholas Da Silva, the story follows Drew McIntosh and his heroic exploits after being empowered by a sacred amulet created by the ancient Maroons of Jamaica. Culturally relevant and boldly revolutionary in its undertaking, the making of Dread & Alive has been covered by press as diverse as software manufacturer Adobe.com, Web Designer Magazine’s HOT 100 for 2010 (UK), Jamaica’s leading national newspaper, the Jamaica Gleaner and ComicVine, the #1 online source for the comic book community. The Lost Tapes Volume 1, which will accompany Dread & Alive #3, follows up on sold out print runs of the first and second issues. The print version of Dread & Alive Issue #3 will be available September 15 via Equal-Distribution, Haven Distributors and online at dreadandalive.com.

The next edition of the Dread & Alive music series will accompany Dread & Alive #4 which is scheduled for a Halloween 2010 weekend release.
