SCATTY NATTY

Female solo dancer Scatty Natty (born Nahteefa Pierre-Louis Shand) was born in February 1990 in Peckham, South East London. At a very young age, music and dance had been established as an integral part of her everyday family life - who originates from the Caribbean.

SCATTY NATTY As a child ,Natty was described as very active, loud and boisterous. However after the death of her mother in 2001, Natty’s character changed, Natty became an introverted, lacking in confidence and the ability to express her feelings. There were also times when it was feared that she would fall in with the wrong crowd, as a result of being surrounded by an environment where there were high rates of social deprivation, gang violence, and teenage pregnancies.

However Natty managed to avoid such situations when she discovered that she was able to express herself through the passion and talent she developed through dance, at the age of 15. Since then, she has had experiences in various urban dance styles such as popping and locking, waving, free styling and street dance.

After a family trip to Jamaica in 2006, and in witnessing the dancing associated dancehall culture, Natty was drawn towards the systematic traits of dancehall. Over the past three years, Natty has had a lot of practical experience in both the street dance and dancehall industry. Including being a member of Starlight Dancers UK. She is also going to take part in the annual dancehall dance off contest 2010.

In 2009 Scatty Natty was offered a place at the University of East London, to study urban dance practice. But like many other artists within the creative industry, Natty decided to defer her place in order pursue a solo career within the dancehall industry.
Scatty Natty been recognised as one of the innovators who has changed the negative perception connected with female dancers - within dancehall, who have previously been regarded as primarily focusing on overtly sexual dance styles. This is due to the creation of a range of versatile dance moves such as the “Air Walk“, “Kool-Aid“, “Transform“, “Scatty Natty” plus more.
This has provided an alternative option for females interested in the dancehall scene and is contrary to the negative connotations that are often linked with dancehall.

EXPERIENCE

April 2009: She was a runner up in an online George Sampson dance competition.
June 2009: Natty was featured in an internet promo video for a vocal group called ‘The BB Architects’
July 2009: She was a finalist in dancehall’s super star - Mr Vegas’ international ‘Sassa Step’ competition.
Oct 2009: Natty performed at the annual ‘European Dancers Link Up’ in Dortmund, Germany alongside the leading European stars of Dancehall.
March 2010: Performed at ‘Everybody Come Dance’ in Birmingham alongside the UK’S top dancehall artists.
March 2010: Scatty Natty was the choreographer for Luca Bonet’s (ft Katanya) music video ‘Holla’
March 2010: She danced in dancehall artist ‘Temperatures’ music video for ‘Over Dem Yard’
April 2010: Natty appeared in dancehall artist Bucky Jo’s video for “Dance To The Music” where her dance moves ‘Air Walk’ and ‘Transform’ were featured in the song.
April 2010: Scatty Natty was nominated for a Dancehall Dancers Award 2010
May 2010: Natty performed at ‘We Bring The Stars Out’ in Bristol, alongside John Bling from one of Jamaica’s most successful dance groups - Black Blingaz.
May 2010: Natty was also featured in a music video for Texxus and John Bling from the Black Blingaz (this featured moves like ‘Air Walk’, ‘Kool-Aid’ , and ‘Famous Prance’)
May 2010: She choreographed a routine that was used during a performance at The Albany theatre for soul singer ‘Katanya’ (including a live band). Natty also lead this performance on stage.
As well as all of these video shoots and performances, Scatty Natty has also danced alongside many of the dancehall industry’s most respected choreographers and dancers like Ding Dong, Sample Six, Dyema, Black Blingaz, Crazy Hype (m.o.b), Sri Lanka (m.o.b), Mad Michelle, and Sir Yummy (Above A Dem Squad).
